In this weeks class we learnt about things that were created due to a wealth of new technology.

We looked at the Industrial revolution, and how it impacted the world.

The Mutoscope:

I found the use of the mutoscope quite fascinating. Invented by Herman Casler and W.K.L Dickson, it was an early motion picture device, that only one person could view at a time. I find it very interesting the attention to detail and how time consuming it would have been to create something like this.

Japonism:

Japonism was a term created in France (originally it was 'Japonisme') to refer to the craze for Japanese art and design in late 19th-century Europe. The interest was sparked when Japan opened its ports to trade with the West in 1853. I personally love the painting below that was made at the time.

Claude Monet and Vincent Van Gogh:

We looked at the works of famous artists Claude Monet and Vincent Van Gogh. This was my favourite part of the lesson as Claude Monet is one of my favourite artists of all time. I find his artwork truly beautiful and inspiring. I think that it’s a wonderful thing that we’re introduced to classic artists such as these, as they can inspire things such as colour schemes into our projects.
