In this week’s lesson, we dived into how illustration can be used in UI.

Mascots

Mascots are a prime example of how illustration can be used in UI. I definitely want to explore this for my project, even though I already have a fair idea that I will be including one. Mascots are more than just a cute character, they represent the overall brand and they communicate with the user, which builds an emotional connection with the user. These reasons make me want to include one even more. An example of a successful mascot is the Duolingo bird, looking at this examples and seeing how you can personify an object and make it have emotions is something i’d like to incorporate in my project.

Thematic

Thematic illustrations in UI are a powerful tool for establishing the mood or theme of an application. They help to create a cohesive aesthetic that carries through the entire user experience. These illustrations can be used in the background, in onboarding screens, or as part of the actual interface elements. They not only enhance the visual appeal of the app but also help in guiding the user and making the app more intuitive and user-friendly. However, it's vital to ensure that these illustrations align with the brand's identity and the app's purpose. I hope to remember this when designing my app.

Icons

Icons in UI play a crucial role in enhancing user experience. They are used for navigation and overcoming language barriers. They can make the user interface simpler and more intuitive by visually representing functions and options. Icons should be simple, clear, and consistent to support user interaction without causing confusion or misinterpretation.
