In Week 8 of the semester, we looked at different ways we can present data.

James Round

James Round is an independent, multi-award winning Graphic Designer and Illustrator based in London. He creates crafted printed products, by compelling Data Visualisations and bold illustration that engage and please people. This piece of work below is another Data Visualisation that explores over a century of extinction, mapping the threats faced by every lost species since the last century. James Round’s work was my favourite piece of work we looked at today. I love the bright light colours he adopts in this particular piece and the classic typography. I would like to emulate this kind of style for my dashboard.

Brendan Dawes

Brendan Dawes is a UK-based artist and creator that uses generative systems involving data, machine learning and coding. Dawes explores the interaction between objects, people, technology and art. I think the way Brendan Dawes visualises data is truly a piece of art. Initially when you look at his work, you think it’s a fine art piece, not a visualisation of data. Work like this inspires me greatly to push the boundaries to creatively present data.

Nicholas Felton

Nicolas Felton is a designer who specialises in data visualisation. Between the years of 2005 and 2014, Felton would produce a document each year which detailed aspects of his life recorded over a year, I really like the fact that Belfast was included in one of his iconic pieces. I love the use of type he adopts in his pieces and that’s something I would like to emulate in my dashboard as it’s so impactful.
